Arianna Balestrieri is a multidisciplinary artist working across contemporary dance, performance art, visual culture, immersive technologies, music, fashion, and site-specific practices.

Her work is rooted in the body as a tool for research and transformation, expanding choreographic language through dialogue with different artistic disciplines and media. As a freelance dancer, she collaborates with internationally recognised artists, choreographers, and interdisciplinary collectives, performing in projects that merge movement with visual arts, sound, technology, and installation.

Her collaborations include REVERIE by Georgia Tegou and Michalis Theophanous (dance-as-design), SUPERIMPOSITION by POLISONUM, and WONDER, the virtual reality experience conceived by Alessandro Risuleo and Hyperstudio. These works have allowed her to engage with diverse artistic contexts ranging from contemporary dance and performance art to sound research, digital environments, and immersive experiences.

Alongside her work as a performer, Arianna develops projects as a movement director, collaborating with artists from different fields to translate concepts, emotions, and visual narratives into embodied languages. Her movement direction includes HAIR FUCK by Vittoria Rizzardi Peñalosa and the cover artwork project To All The Lost Souls by Guinevere, where choreographic research became an integral part of the visual and conceptual development of the final works.

As a choreographer and director, she creates original projects that investigate the relationship between body, space, matter, and perception. Her works include:

ON LINES, a hybrid performance exploring the encounter between physical and digital realities.

PLAY THE CLAY, developed in dialogue with sculpture and the creative process.

META, a site-specific intervention that redefines public and transitional spaces through movement.

CICLICA, a live performance created in collaboration with drawing and visual art practices.

Through these projects, she constructs performative environments where choreography becomes a meeting point between different forms of creation and knowledge.

Her artistic practice is characterised by a constant crossing of disciplines, embracing collaborations with visual artists, musicians, filmmakers, fashion designers, and digital creators.

Moving fluidly between stage performances, site-specific interventions, virtual reality, photography, sculpture, drawing, sound art, and fashion-related projects, Arianna develops works that challenge conventional boundaries and investigate new possibilities for embodied experience.

PLAY THE CLAY

What shape does thought have? And on what scale does matter vibrate?

Play the Clay is a sensory and visual journey into the heart of the creative process, where gesture becomes language and clay becomes body.

Two dancers, in dialogue with the material, embody the sculptor’s thoughts, transforming them into movement, rhythm, breath. In this alchemy of flesh and earth, the artwork comes to life not only as an object, but as a living, ever-changing experience. Just as the hands that mold clay give shape to an image, so the mind molds reality, shaping emotions, transforming intuitions into actions.

The stage becomes a laboratory of the soul, a space where stillness and turbulence coexist, where every gesture is a question about the relationship between idea and form, between impulse and matter. In a silent dialogue between bodies and clay, a dynamic statue is born: fragile and powerful, unfinished and perfect in its becoming.

Play the Clay is a journey into the deepest self, an invitation to contemplate creation no as a final act, but as a continuous process of transformation.

ON LINES

Two bodies inhabit a threshold: the space between the tangible and the digital. Through dance and their interaction with screens and projections, the performers move across real and virtual worlds that mirror, overlap, and intertwine with one another. The stage becomes a hybrid territory where technology and human presence merge into a choreography of images, movement, and emotion.

The recognition and acceptance of the double through dance, a supreme act of love that allows the mask of mutual identification to be cast aside, enabling two beings to become one.

In the transition between different planes and dimensions, gesture transforms into form and becomes a bond; from the horizontal line that drives us toward matter, we move to the vertical one that leads us toward the spirit.

A duality that finds a different destiny only through the search for balance between the masculine and the feminine, fulfilling the Heraclitean principle: “What is opposed converges, and from discord arises the most beautiful harmony.”

An inner journey guided by the powerful energy of two dancers, leading to the discovery of oneself in the other.

HAIR F*CK

“HAIRFUCK” is a performance art piece that sees five women connected by a single braid of hair desperately trying to reach the “wild woman” she who lives freely from society’s expectations.

The length of hair is often equated with beauty, and beauty, in turn, becomes synonymous with youth, vitality, and ultimately, fertility. By weaving the dancers together with a single braid, the piece visually expresses the weight of these expectations, as well as the inherent strength and vulnerability that come with navigating them.

The braid itself becomes a symbol of how women are not only measured by these standards but are also bound by them in ways that affect their sense of identity and belonging. The “wild woman” walks freely into the future, never reached and never moulding.
